The economic and financial crimes commission, EFCC, on tuesday, april sixteen, 2019, re-arrested justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia in other to prepare a fresh criminal suit against her.
The commission re-arrested Ofili-Ajumogobia consistent with the decision of the Appeal Court, lagos department, in a case regarding justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, in which it reveled that a Justice can’t be prosecuted till he or she had both been dismissed or compulsorily retired through the country National judicial council, Njc.
EFCC, had first arraigned Ofili-Ajumogobia and Godwin Obla, San, on a 30-count charge on monday, november 28, 2016 on offences bordering on perversion of the path of justice, graft, illegal enrichment, imparting false information and forgery.
They had been, but, re-arraigned on an amended 31-count charge fee bordering on an alleged perversion of the direction of justice, unlawful enrichment and forgery.
They pleaded now not quilty to the counts filed against them, thereby setting the degree for the trial.
However, Ifedayo Adedipe, SAN, counsel for the second defendant, Obla, on January 25, 2019, told the court that the charges lavlled against his client could be entertained. He, furthermore, urged the court to separate the charges so that his client could continue with his trial.
The judge similarly directed each party to make their submissions based totally at the application on the jurisdiction of the court.
